Two bereaved families take a holiday vacation to an exotic Caribbean island over Christmas week to escape the memories of Christmas past. The Casey family, father Dan (Colin Ferguson), 17-year-old Blair and 11-year-old Nell, recently experienced their mother abandoning them. The Marino family, mother Dana (Charlotte Ross), 16-year-old son Chris and 12 year-old Michael, recently suffered the death of their father. The two families meet aboard ship on the Caribbean Christmas Cruise. Given all they have in common (their losses, single parenthood), the parents and kids develop bonds over the course of the cruise and their two day stay at a beautiful Puerto Rican beach resort. Late Christmas Eve comes the big curve ball -- Dan's ex-wife shows up to reclaim her family. What promised to be a happy Christmas filled with fresh hope and new relationships turns emotionally complicated as each character has to sort out their feelings and choose their own path. After some deep soul-searching the two families end up coming back together in love, friendship and filled with the Christmas spirit.
